During their April holiday, 9 Interior Design students from the Nelson Mandela University Department of Architectural Technology and Interior Design worked at the Cheshire Homes in Summerstrand, as part of their curriculum.

The students were asked to reimagine two spaces from Cheshire, and these students were also responsible for organizing sponsors and donations in order to create the spaces.

The two areas that had to be redesigned, where the “Meeting/Games room” as well as the Art/Therapy room. Special care was taken to reconsider color psychology and ergonomics within the space, to suit the lifestyle of the Cheshire residents.

Project implementation officially took place from 17-201April 2017, and was officially handed over to Cheshire Homes on the 25th of April 2017.

The aim of the project is to inspire social responsibility amongst young designers, as well as encouraging a sense of awareness by using design as a medium for uplifting their surrounding communities and environments.
